Top 100 Music Albums of the 1970s by Junomoogmello

if I had to lose all of my music and only keep one decade then it would be the seventies I would keep, that said, the sixties albums are a close second. Without doubt, many of the best albums of all times were born in the seventies. In order to keep my comments up to date I will be updating them as I re-listen to the albums listed, in most cases I will be commenting on the vinyl, although it is likely that I will have CD versions too. The only real reason for buying CD's was to listen to music in the car. In my opinion, vinyl cannot be trumped for sound or the tactility of something truly beautiful.

There is very little to add to the hundreds of comments left by so many over the years. From the iconic album cover which has to be the most recognisable album cover in History to the opening track, this album is wall to wall class. I still get goose pimples listening to the intro of 'Time' at decent volume, equally the 'break' in 'Money' is another standout moment. If any album brought fame to the VCS synth it is this one. I absolutely love this album and could listen to it over and over, well do actually, I have the vinyl on now as I type! The best Roger Waters vocals, solo or Floyd are on this album and the Mini Moog soloing and swirling background synth textures on Dogs is superb. One of the most iconic album covers in rock completes the ensemble. [First added to this chart: 06/19/2018]

In my opinion this is Gong's best work. The vast diversity of musical styles is extremely clever in that it all knits together as a whole. Moving from progressive, rock, advante garde jazz (with Courtney Pine esqe saxaphone) this album opens up the mind with every listen! [First added to this chart: 06/19/2018]

There is very little to add to what many have said before me. An absolute master class in prog rock. From the huge church organ patches to moments of minamilistic solo vocal and everything in between. Fantastic! [First added to this chart: 06/19/2018]

A truly amazing prog rock masterpiece. Superb guitar work throughout. The Hipgnosis cover design provokes thought and is clever for its simplicity, very possibly my favorite album cover of all time for its simplistic yet thought provoking design. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2018]

A beautiful album, instrumentation is superb throughout. My two favourite tracks are 'Air Born' and 'Lunar Sea'. Camel is like a cross between Pink Floyd, Genesis and Yes. If you are a synth nut like me you will really appreciate this album, wall to wall Moog Model D, Freeman String Symphoniser, Roland RS202 and Hammond B3. [First added to this chart: 08/25/2018]

What an album! Is it metal, heavy rock, prog? To be honest, who cares... From the iconic album cover to the most famous guitar swan song of all time. 'Rock and Roll' and 'When the Levee Breaks' are other personal favourites and as for 'Stairway to Heaven', this track has it all, Mellotron, acoustic guitar, soaring guitar, storming drums and an era defining vocal. 27 albums in common with my own 70's chart, 20 in common with my top 100 all time list. The 70's is definitely my favourite decade. Great chart.
