if I had to lose all of my music and only keep one decade then it would be the seventies I would keep, that said, the sixties albums are a close second. Without doubt, many of the best albums of all times were born in the seventies. In order to keep my comments up to date I will be updating them as I re-listen to the albums listed, in most cases I will be commenting on the vinyl, although it is likely that I will have CD versions too. The only real reason for buying CD's was to listen to music in the car. In my opinion, vinyl cannot be trumped for sound or the tactility of something truly beautiful.

This is the first LP I ever bought myself. I think that I was in the third year at School (year 9 in modern speak I think) and remeber saving up for it from money I earned picking potatoes on a local farm. That back breaking work was certainly worth it. This is an incredible instrumental album with a great cover. The album could almost be considered a 'concept' album as the 'Fear of the Dark' theme does stay throughout. It was the amazing drummer, Simon Phillips, which really won me over on this album. If the size of the drum kit in the sleeve photo wasn't enough to get an inspiring young drummer drualling then the actual way he made the kit 'talk' like an instrument certainly was. This is a fantastic album which I listen to over and over again. A prog album, a concept album, analogue synths, different vocalists, futuristic guitar work, excellent production, drums captured perfectly, superb gatefold sleeve, I'll stop now. [First added to this chart: 06/19/2018]

I am surprised that this album doesn't sit in a higher position within the Queen hierarchy. Particularly considering that there are several classics on it, some of which became Queen mainstays. I really like this album, in fact, dare I say, more than A Night at the Opera. The production quality is excellent, in particular the drums. When I play this vinyl up loud it sounds like the drum kit is in the dining room! [First added to this chart: 06/19/2018]

The opening track is excellent with an almost jazz feel, particularly when the sax comes in. The solid theme continues throughout the album delivering some excellent tracks. Happy to have this on vinyl now having had the CD for several years. [First added to this chart: 06/19/2018]

27 albums in common with my own 70's chart, 20 in common with my top 100 all time list. The 70's is definitely my favourite decade. Great chart.
