After the amazing album that was Everything Must Go, comes the equally fantastic This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours, one of my all-time favorite albums. On the record, The Manics continue to evolve and reshape their unique sound, this time going for a more melodic and tender approach, leaving the distorted guitars behind. Lyrically, the band has already reached its peak, but in terms of crafting melodies and utilizing varied instrumentation, this album is the Manics at their best.

Weezer's debut album also referred to as The Blue Album, remains one of the most influential garage and alternative rock albums of the mid-90s. It's a collection of well-written songs, played with youthful energy and confidence rarely heard on debut albums today. [First added to this chart: 08/18/2020]

'Everything Changes' continues the successful blend of alternative rock and Celtic folk-pop in Del Amitri's music. The follow-up to 'Waking Hours' is nearly as good, even if the lack of really strong singles drags it down a bit.

Gran Turismo marks a drastic change for The Cardigans, both in terms of sound and in lyrical content. Adding electronic influences and sounding like a Swedish copy of Garbage, the former jazzy pop-rock band has suddenly turned into a dark and brooding alternative act. Lyrically, Gran Turismo is easily the darkest and most depressing album the band has produced so far. And despite the heavy use of electronic sounds, hard-hitting percussion, and low notes their music still sounds catchy and recognizable.

Pinkerton takes the guitars and drums from The Blue Album and ups their volume while shifting from subject of love and alcohol to college life. The lyrics famously personify River Cuomo's experiences during his time in college, meaning that the overall sound on the album as darker and more abrasive compared to the debut. This is something closer to actual grunge music, like Weezer following in the footsteps of Pixies.

MSP´s fourth album Everything Must Go is arguably were the golden era starts for the band. The legendary record is filled with timeless classics, from sweet ballads to arena-filling rockers. The soaring guitars paint majestic melodies that carry the most well-known songs expertly forward, James Dean Bradfield's vocals are layered perfectly and the lyrics, while not as political or dark as previously, capture the world the band is describing convincingly.

Some people despise Dizzy Up The Girl for it's jangling guitars and radio-friendly pop sound, not to mention the killer hit single Iris. Others, I included, think it's one of the better alliterative rock albums of the late 90s. [First added to this chart: 08/18/2020]

TMBG confidently re-creates its successful third album on this space-themed record. With a strong collection of singles and a more streamlined rock-sound, Apollo 18 is another entertaining record to listen to.

Returning to depressing lyrics and shifting towards edgier, more guitar-driven and downbeat (Lovefool being the notable exception) sound, The Cardigans' third album is also their most rock-influenced. It flows nicely from beginning to end and doesn't try to smooth out the edges as much as on the previous two albums.
