However, I think it mana...""I've been listening to this non-stop since it leaked 2 days ago and I think I made up my mind. Some are saying this is their best, but I honestly don't think it tops Sound of Silver; Sound of Silver was their peak and I don't think they'll make something better than that. However, I think it manages to be better than their other 2 records. This statement will become the most common one when talking about American Dream, but it's their darkest album to date, and you can feel throughout the record an evolution to their sound. Of course there are still over-the-top dance songs like "Tonite", "Call the Police" and the post-punk-ish "Other Voices", "Change Yr Mind" and "Emotional Haircut", but even then (especially the latter), they sound "heavier" in some way than their first 3 albums. The bookend tracks as well as the title track are beautiful. They provide a very emotional side of LCD that I think hadn't been fully explored before (except for "New York I Love You"). And even "How Do You Sleep?" which is the best song in American Dream and provides one of the best buildups ever in their discography, sounds much darker than similar songs in previous records. "I Used To" on the other hand sounds a lot like a Joy Division / goth era The Cure song and I fucking love it. I really really enjoyed this. Definitely one of the best albums of 2017. I had high expectations and even then, it managed to be even better than I ever expected. 3/4 of my favorite tracks weren't released as singles which was a good thing considering this year many bands decided to nuke us with singles. As a whole, American Dream simply blows my mind. Best songs: "oh baby", "how do you sleep?", "american dream", "black screen""  [+]  Reply

Unfortunately these same years The Kinks were over shadowed by The Beatles creative peak but as the years have gone on The Kinks have begun to receive there right dues for their sustained excellence 'Lola vs Powerman' is a concept album that is easy to follow and tells the tale of an up and coming band craving success ("The Contenders" , "Get Back In Line") who finally hit it big ("Top of the Pops") only to become disillusioned with the business side of music and touring constantly ("The Moneygoround" ,"Powerman" , "This Time Tomorrow" , "A Long Way From Home") and ultimately seeking a simpler life away from success ("Apeman" , "Got to Be Free" ) This album contains not one but 2 perfect 100/100 tracks in the breathtaking "Strangers" and "This Time Tomorrow" This album and 3 preceding it are simply sublime "  [+]  Reply

It starts with Brighton Rock, which recently had renewed interest due to the Baby Driver movie. It's a top notch track that shows off just how great Brian May's guitar playing really is. That's followed up by Killer Queen. Little needs to be said about this one. Everyone knows it. Then comes the three songs that blend into one another - Tenement Funster, Flick of the Wrist, and Lily of the Valley - which is truly amazing, and those three tracks are some of my favourite that Queen's ever done. Now I'm Here is a great catchy rock number. What an excellent first side to an album. Then side two starts with In the Lap of the Gods. I particularly love the way this track starts. A strong opener for side two. Then comes Stone Cold Crazy, the track Q magazine described as "thrash metal before the term was invented". It's a great fun heavy rocker. Dear Friends gives us something more melodic and mellow, before we get onto a Deacon track, Misfire. Which is a decent pop-rock song. Bring Back That Leroy Brown is an incredibly clever track. It really shows just how diverse Queen were. She Makes Me (Stormtrooper in Stilettos) is both haunting and wonderful. Such an underrated gem. And then the album finishes perfectly with the anthemic In the Lap of the Gods... Revisited. All in all one of my favourite albums ever. Brilliant album."  [+]  Reply

Need proof I was obsessed ?. I have 3 physical CD copies of 'Deserters Songs' - the original standard CD , a Limited Edition release with Bonus 5 track EP and finally a special numbered release with cardboard cover and post cards included Why do I love this album so much ? Well much like Neutral Milk Hotels 'In the Aeroplane ..' it has that X factor I struggle to put into words , its weird and wonky and feels old (but isn't ) and is almost perfect How I feel about 'Deserters Songs' is best encapsulated by the following Grasshopper liner notes from the demo's release 'Deserted Songs' “As we pulled these Deserted Songs to the surface whatever had been holding us hostage cracked and withered in the blistering power of this music, and these songs allowed us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time… It is the magic of the vibrating universe; the music of the Angels” As I write this late June 2019 'Deserters Songs' shamefully sits in the 600's on BEA All-Time album list , if ever an album deserved to be in the top 500 this is it "  [+]  Reply
