Weezer's White Album might very well be their best one ever, at least since Blue. It expertly anchors its sound and lyrics in days far gone, while still sounding inherently modern and polished. The lyrics centre around life in L.A., making all songs fit nicely within one and the same continuity. I love every single song on the album and there isn't any single song that is bad or forgettable. [First added to this chart: 08/18/2020]

AM is the seminal fifth album by Arctic Monkeys, the UK based alternative rock band. Many consider it one of the greatest albums released during the 2010s, and those could not be more right. The album is a far cry from the garage-rock influenced early albums the band released and instead listeners treated with 12 largely magnificent tracks about love, parties and depressing moments in people's lives. The lyrics are deep but simple, the instrumentation is catchy and the melodies are instantly recognizable. The heap of standout singles helps lift this album to new heights. Lyrically and, most importantly, sonically, this is the best album the band has released so far. [First added to this chart: 08/18/2020]

Harry Styles returns with his sophomore effort and somehow manages to keep the high quality and catchy rock tune from his debut solo album, while at the same time sounding modern and polished in his modern rock sound. The instrumentation is more varied this time around and the songwriting stays at a high level. [First added to this chart: 08/18/2020]

There is something intrinsically sad and touching about listening to The Cranberries' acoustic album two years after Dolores O'Riordan's death. Sure, it's a collection of some of the band's greatest songs from the 90s, as well as three new songs, but it captures the dreamy, depressing yet immensely catchy sound the band is known for in a whole new way. Postcards from a Young Man marks another shift for the Manics, as the band enters another decade. Once again turning their backs on their punk rock roots, the band's tenth studio album is a record filled with radio-friendly anthems, built around recognizable choruses and infectious guitar play. Fully embracing their newfound synthpop sound, Battle Born is The Killers' slickest and most overproduced album so far. While it continues to combine the post-punk sounds from the band's early albums, it delves deeper into the synthpop sound explored in Day & Age. This time, however, the energetic rhythm is toned down in favor of a bigger depth and subtler emotions. [First added to this chart: 08/18/2020]

The thing about Rebel Beat is that while it shakes off every last ounce of alternative rock and power pop form the by now extremely mainstream sound the Goo Goo Dolls put out, it still marks the first proper shift in the band's sound since Dizzy Up The Girl. One could argue that the decision to go all pop-rock like so many other contemporaries is the wrong move to make, but for me personally that means that Goo Goo Dolls offers some of their best songs in a long time. The Black Keys return with a magnificently raw and psychedelic garage rock record, combining their original savage sound with radio-friendly tunes and approachable lyrics. The band has never written better hooks or performed more memorable guitar riffs. [First added to this chart: 08/18/2020]
