Top 17 Music Albums of 1967
by mrmcrook

I was born in '67. What a great year for music I've come to discover.

My top 10 songs from 1967
1. The Beatles - A Day in the Life. Even though most other tracks from Sgt Peppers could fill this list
2. The Doors - The End
3. The Beatles - I am the Walrus. At least another 3 from this album could be in this slot
4. Jefferson Airplane - Somebody to Love
5. The Doors - Strange Days
6. Jimmy Hendrix - Fire. Almost any song on this album could be on this list
7. The Who - I Can See For Miles
8. The Doors - Moonlight Drive
9. Rolling Stones - She's a Rainbow
10. The Velvet Underground - Venus in Furs

88.50 I seem to be going through a bit of a 'Doors' re-appreciation phase at the moment. Always liked them but enjoying them a heap more nowadays. This is my fave studio album from them. Cracker cover. "True sailing is dead" [First added to this chart: 03/11/2021]

88.181* 1967 was just the top year for the Beatles with both this plus Sgt Peppers being two of the greatest albums ever released. An amazing achievement. Hence why the Beatles are one of the greatest bands ever. EVER!!!! 10/25 [First added to this chart: 03/14/2025]

87.72 Great album. What more needs be said. I seem to be fortunate in acquiring a copy (CD) that has all songs from both US and UK versions on it. Lucky me. This is almost a greatest hits album. That says a lot for a studio album. [First added to this chart: 06/29/2021]

86.272* Great album. The Doors are The Doors. One of a kind. 'The End' just oozing atmosphere. 'The Crystal Ship' is an under rated gem. Fine album right through. 11/25 [First added to this chart: 03/11/2021]

80.818* One of the most ultimate albums of all things psychedelic. Some true golden tracks on this. Scarecrow, Gnome, Bike, marvelous lyrics. I do think 'Interstellar Overdrive' is a tad overrated though. 11/25 [First added to this chart: 03/11/2021]

80.18* I'm slightly amazed I had ignored this for so long. What a fucking gem of an album. Top notch. Simplistic yet not. Raw authenticity. One of the true classics from the 60's. Very happy I finally discovered it 06/25 [First added to this chart: 02/13/2025]

79.70* Couldn't even name anything Leonard Cohen did but his name is synonymous with recording legends. Hence why I got this to check him out. Great voice. You just absorb this easily. Fantastic wordsmith and storyteller. I prefer this over any Dylan. Melancholic bliss. Great right through with no weak points. With his style and sound I'd say he was a major influence on Nick Cave. You can hear similarities. Great. 10/25 [First added to this chart: 10/11/2025]

77.083* A Stones album with minimal singles on it (I have the UK version, Yesterdays Papers was the only familiar track). Mainly a lot of their lesser known songs. Took a bit for me to warm to it but still a good album. Has gone up in my ratings. 12/25 [First added to this chart: 04/13/2022]

76.36 If you wanted an album to explain what the perfect sound to the summer of love is, this is it. It exemplifies the stereotypical style of the time. One of the better albums of that era. Gets better with every listen 02/25 [First added to this chart: 07/20/2023]
