George Harrison had a song on each side of the original vinyl album. With these two to represent him, he didn't need another. Both "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun" became huge pop hits, which was quite amazing in a band that had Lennon & McCartney as the main songwriting duo. Lennon & McCartney's "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" was a hypnotic eight minute guitar excursion. Side two is an incredible trip, making it a great album all around. It wasn't their final album contribution to the music world, but it should have been. I love this record. [First added to this chart: 08/12/2021]

"Who's Next" is The Who at their best. As good as a few of the other Who albums were, the operas as well, they never really matched or surpassed this one, in quality or rock potency. There are no filler songs on Who's Next, as all of them are amazing. It's easily one of the best albums of the classic rock era. [First added to this chart: 08/04/2021]

Led Zeppelin II was one of the more intriguing blues influenced hard rock albums of any era. The styles vary throughout, as each track stands out on its own. Its abundant riff magic amid powerful rhythmic drive had been done already, as the first album's "How Many More Times" possessed that initial repetitive punch. But the riff, the vocals, and the rhythmic drive here in "Whole Lotta Love" became the exemplar of that great Zeppelin sound. A few songs have the incredible knack to start soft and mellow with incredible melody and then leap into the Zeppelin trademark funk and driving hard rock. LZII is one of the best albums in history. It was undoubtedly a difficult period for the Stones, as they had just weathered the storm of Brian Jones' death and a search for his replacement. Nevertheless, it was perfect timing for the entrance of guitarist Mick Taylor into the band, being that the era's music was defined by strong musicianship and songs with extended time and eclectic guitar solos. Sticky Fingers wasn't the first Stones' album to feature Taylor, but it was the first studio album on which he played throughout. And a strong presence he was. His lead work alongside the signature riffs and rhythms of Keith Richards helped to make it one of the Stones' best albums.

The start to "Brown Sugar" immediately displays the synchronized coherence in the playing of both, a unity that sustains throughout the album, especially in the lethargic and heavy "Sway," the frenzied rocker "Bitch," and the dreamy road song "Moonlight Mile." There are no filler songs here at all. Wyman and Watts are at the top of their rhythm game, and the horns, used in all the right places, add another dimension to the music.

The studio jam that evolved into "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" was, and still is, a total gem, one that fans didn't anticipate from a band that had been a lyrical, hit making machine before this. It was 1971; the onset of a new Stones' era, and their sound was expanding and evolving. Much of the album is lethargic and drug induced, both musically and lyrically. But paradoxically, it's some of the finest music of their career, with a potpourri of bluesy, dreamy, and hard rocking songs amid colorful lyricism.

Dark Side is an excellent album with superb flow and incredible melody throughout. Each band member stands out with equal contribution to the finished product. Its the band's contemporary contribution to the pop music world. But it's not devoid of anything Floyd; as the spacey and ambient melodies and effects amid strong musicianship is present throughout. This album is perfect. [First added to this chart: 08/12/2021]

Machine Head was a monster album for Deep Purple and fans. The musicianship and vocals are excellent throughout. There are no filler songs at all. It's a wild excursion from beginning to end. Ritchie Blackmore is a killer guitarist. Jon Lord's keyboard playing is utterly innovative; he's like a second guitarist at times. Great album all around! [First added to this chart: 08/16/2021]

Townshend's SG plugged into HiWatt amps is the epitome of the sought after sound of many hard rock guitarists. The notes bounce of the Leeds' auditorium walls with massive volume and echo. That incredible sound helps to make this album one of classic rock's best live efforts. [First added to this chart: 08/25/2021]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 90.3/100, a mean average of 92.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 92.4/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 5.9.

Liked seeing some outliers like Isakov. Would have liked to see at least 1 album (preferably more) from outside North America or British Isles.

Really love your chart! Although you have very similar tastes to mine overall, there are plenty in the rock/blues genres here I haven't heard yet so I must check them out. Took me on a journey. Definitely heavily 70s, but I'd agree it is the best decade for music hands down.
