Progressive rock starts here. The cover may be hideous, the music inside is delightful. And the first track is rocking. [First added to this chart: 12/13/2012]

The first rock-opera. And if that sounds insulting nowadays, here, the freshness of the songwriting (Pete Townshend), the clever instrumentation (an orchestral scope with no orchestra but mostly acoustic guitars and piano), and the general coming-of-age of the band, particularly singer Roger Daltrey, make this twisted story of a deaf, dumb and blind boy-turned- pinball wizard-turned- new messiah- turned pariah sound perfectly natural and understandable. And enjoyable. [First added to this chart: 12/13/2012]

The pinnacle of their early phase, introducing the brand new Rickenbacker 12-string electric guitar, so influential on the Byrds. Fresh, brilliant, inventive, romantic and rocking; and entirely self-penned (Lennon-McCartney) at a time when most of their contemporaries were still relying on covers. Wow. 51 albums in common. Great number one. When I went through a spell of depression I played the White Album constantly and it helped me. It was my favourite Beatles album for a long time. Then my favourite was Revolver for years. In the last year Sgt Pepper has become my favourite. I play it all the time. Plenty of other great albums and a few to discover especially Donovan. I am a fellow Scotsman and only know his singles. Now I want to hear his albums. It would be good to see more French music of the 60s apart from Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin. But I suppose you are limited for space.
Tres bien!
