- Post subject: What are some essential Punk albums from any decade?
|
I've been really interested in getting into Punk. I know some of the big albums like Nevermind the Bollocks and London Calling, but outside of those select few, I'm not really sure where to start. One recent Punk band I like are Turnstile. Any recommendations for this newbie? Thanks for any suggestions in advance!
Also what are the identifiers of a Punk band or album? Is it the attitude? I'm a bit confused when it comes to identifying when something is Punk, since Punk has quite a few styles that I'm unfamiliar with.

Some amazing recs!!! I won't clutter this up except to point out two utterly essential albums that haven't been mentioned yet...

edit: Perhaps it would be fun for each of us to list what we consider our ESSENTIAL punk list for the newbie...

The Woods by Sleater-Kinney
I know in terms of this century there's significantly less to choose from but I think this album is pretty ambitious and is definitely worth noting. Some might disagree but it feels massive!

Plowing Into The Field Of Love by Iceage
If you enjoyed Gun Club's stuff, give this one a go. I just love it! It's visceral and gorgeous at the same time. _________________ Some RYM paraphernalia:
