- Post subject: Artists like Donovan and Cat Stevens?

I seem to be going through that phase currently. I love how relaxing, simplistic, uplifting and melodic a lot of their songs are: Colours, Catch the wind, Jennifer Juniper, The wind, If you want to sing out, Don't be shy etc
Could anyone recommend me more singer songwriters that evoke similiar emotions and feelings? I've heard The tallest man on the earth and I quite enjoy his stuff. But not many more.

Kevin Ayers maybe. Quirky, poetic, inventive... very melodic.
Different to Donovan for sure, but I discovered (and fell for) both artists at about the same time in my life.

Ooooh, don't mind if I do...

Veneer by José González
He's a contemporary of Tallest Man On Earth. Quite relaxing. Not too depressing, more upbeat. That's the main challenge: finding similar artists to the 3 reference points given which aren't too somber/depressing. The genre seems to lend itself to that emotion.

Sometimes The Blues Is A Passing Bird b...n On Earth
I know you said you've been into some of his stuff, but seriously this is his best work, only 15 minutes, 5 of the sweetest most beautiful acoustic music ever.

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
This is the closest thing to a chipper nick Drake. Very similar at times in vibe to Cat Stevens.

Live At The Old Quarter by Townes Van Zandt
Don't mind this album, unless you have an interest in folk country goodness with calming vibes, poetic lyrics, Just a man and his guitar and a few dozen friends. It's a gem
John Prine by John Prine
Now this is kinda more country than the others, but it's got a sunny side to it and it's mostly acoustic goodness.

The Best Of Mississippi John Hurt by Mi... John Hurt
And this is the most outta left field, but hear me: it's good. Really relaxing, absolutely BEAUTIFUL guitar playing, a very wholesome and spiritual vibe, and it's a shitty title - cuz it's not a best of. It's a live album of him playing to some adoring youngsters in the 60s. Adore it.

Okay, that's all for now. Hope these helped. _________________ -Ryan
