Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.9/100, a mean average of 70.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.0.

Very underrated. It sounds good enough to have more attention and it definitely deserves a higher spot on the overall rank. Not the best thing out there but still to good to be so low.
I, like HoldenM below, thought it sounded quite Microphones-inspired. Turns out, acfording to wikipedia:
" Silberman has stated that when beginning the band as a solo project, his approach to home recording and production was largely inspired by the techniques of lo-fi musician Phil Elverum (The Microphones and Mount Eerie); in particular, that of the critically acclaimed 2001 release, The Glow Pt. 2. "
So that's pretty cool. Bonus points for his excellent taste in music.
This album itself is pretty good. I like the production on it a lot, but some of the tracks are kinda meh songs, kinda bland at times. Some are great tho. We do get a taste of his more orchestral and grandiose work to come in the title track. And I actually really liked the drone-y "last folk song" on here. It reminded me a ton of "(Something)-1" aka "Deep" from the glow part 2.
Even in this, their first record, Pete Silberman's croon shows the mastery and brilliance that will make their later works into masterpieces.
Nice album. Pleasant album. I can dig it.
A lot of this reminds me of The Microphones and Elliott Smith, but with Peter Silberman's voice. Still very good.
