Tribute albums get a bad reputation and usually this is deserved due to the wide range of styles and quality that most contain. But this one is different, because the backing band is the same throughout - it's the Mekons, UK guitar punk-indie-rock cum folk-rock stalwarts. Only the singers change on each track and it's a who's who of late 80s UK and US and Ireland and Australia indie music with each vocalist perfectly suited to the song they are covering. Highlights include Marc Almond's blistering, building to a crescendo 'Man in Black', Pete Shelley's 'Straight 'A's In Love' and Michelle Shocked's 'One Piece At A Time'.
