Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 80.5/100, a mean average of 79.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.8.

One of the best rap-albums i've ever heard. The rapping is fantastic, his flow is tremendous, the lyrics have good foundation in them, with good points and the beats (especially Dance now and Stars) are fantastic as well. Hope he can keep this quality up throughout his career. If he van, he will ascend into the goat conversation. If not, this is still the second best rap album of the decade so far. Hope this album gets the recognition it deserves on this website as well, but as so many other rap albums, i fear it will not get it.
“The Forever Story” explores its central theme of family fantastically. “Crack Sandwich” vividly describes JID and all of his siblings unifying in a street fight. “Sistanem” investigates the complex relationship of loving someone with different values without a common enemy. JID’s flow is versatile and fluid. He jumps across the many beat changes without issue. The latter quarter of the album is a bit weaker. “Money” has an instrumental that feels flat with its looping horns. Both technically and conceptually sound.
Top notch production and consistently sharp lyricism. After a few listens, though, I just wish more of it jumped out at me.
The backing is quality but the way he switches up styles and flows, not over the album, but in the space of the same songs is quite a thing.
Quite a refreshing listen. Has enough old-school energy that the fast-paced rapping from JID and kid-choral backing on many tracks pays off. Some of the trap influences are bad, but they are always bad so it's to be expected. "Money" is the peak highlight despite being one of the more low-key tracks, but – with the 60 minute run time – getting there is a slog.

By far my AOTY. And that's not a dig at other albums dropped this year — that's just how good this is
Great album by JID, àI was surprised by the instrumentals being this good and his flow and rhymes were great as expected
This bombastic new album from JID shows just what a virtuosic rapper, artist and musical auteur he really is with hard hitting and genre hopping beats, Kendrick level storytelling and dynamic features.
This is truly fantastic. Possible aoty contender. Kody Blu 31 is one of the best songs I've heard all year.
