Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 67.3/100, a mean average of 64.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 64.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.5.

The thing about Rebel Beat is that while it shakes off every last ounce of alternative rock and power pop form the by now extremely mainstream sound the Goo Goo Dolls put out, it still marks the first proper shift in the band's sound since Dizzy Up The Girl. One could argue that the decision to go all pop-rock like so many other contemporaries is the wrong move to make, but for me personally that means that Goo Goo Dolls offers some of their best songs in a long time. Indeed, songs like Rebel Beat, Last Hot Night and Happiest Of Days are some of my most-played Goo Goo Dolls songs.
If you're going to balance somewhere between mainstream alternative rock and modern pop-rock, you might as well go all in pop. Whether it's the happiness of Slow It Down or the newfound vulnerability of Bulletproofangel, this is a fresh, infectious pop sound for the old-time punk rockers. Melody-wise, this album also provides a bigger variety than previous albums and a clear difference between the ballads and the more upbeat tracks. The emphasis lies on the happier songs, however, making this an easy summertime album to listen to.

As far as current pop albums go it is pretty good. The highlight tracks were "Caught In the Storm" and "Bullet Proof Angel."
