I’m not a huge beach boys fan but even for me this compilation ticks all the right boxes. Excellent selection
Sure, there are countless hit compilations by the Beach Boys. Some of them leaving out their post "Pet Sounds" hits. Some of them including later 80's songs, that sound totally out of place. Most of them packed to the max or released as overloaded double/triple disc sets, which obviously have some filler material as well. This one instead serves as a brilliant, normal length overview of their most successful years on Capitol Records up to 1969. There is next to no filler on this set - "You're So Good To Me" might be the only semi-hit included. To date, this is still the most definite of the Beach Boys' greatest hits releases, and back in 1976 it was also one of the biggest sellers in the UK.

My favorite Beach Boys songs are the early ones..(It sounds like I'm talking about Woody Allen)..although I love all of their albums, it was difficult to find an album that has all of the songs I like, although this album doesn't have my favorite "In my room"..I could have put "Pet Sounds" which of course is a great album, but I wanted to put up an album that I felt captured all of the dimensions of the Beach Boy sound. Watched on the T.A.M.I. video last night, really great DVD from 1964.
