Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 74.8/100, a mean average of 74.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.6/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 18.3.

MLB released some great songs in their short existence, and it's interesting to hear the clear similarities to Pearl Jam in their songwriting. Andy Wood was definitely on a different wavelength than the grunge lead singers who followed him, as his persona has much more of a 'rock star' vibe (see: Captain Hi-Top). Mainly I think MLB was held back by lacking a truly great lead guitarist in the vein of Mike McCready.
Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns stands out as MLB/Wood's crowning achievement, and it is a truly fantastic song. While nothing else they released is quite so epic, This is Shangrila, Stardog Champions, and Come Bite the Apple are some other great tracks.
Amazing to think what they could have been. Of course then we never would have had Pearl Jam...
They should have been huge.
