Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A little too whiny, at the same time, they are kinda my music guilty pleasure
They might not be as good as Green Day, Good Charlotte or Yellowcard (In my opinion) but they also have some great songs filled with emotion and sadness.
You can say they're not that original and you can call them pathetic just as much as you want, but you can't deny that they know how to write both super-emotional-song and simple-yet-interesting Pop Punk classic.

When men in their 30s are pandering to whiny pre-teens who need to get over themselves, it no wonder they're not taken seriously by critics. Simple Plan needs to go back to being a punk-pop cover band in the bars of Montreal. Yuck.
