Smog isn't exactly a band, but rather the primary stage name used by American singer-songwriter Bill Callahan between 1988 and 2007. He is considered one of the most influential figures in the 90s American indie rock and lo-fi scenes.
Smog's music is characterized by a deep baritone voice and introspective lyrics often laced with dark humor and irony. Starting with amateur cassette recordings (lo-fi), Callahan gradually enriched his compositions with more polished and complex arrangements.
