I like early Joni better, but Coyote is one of the greatest songs ever written.
One of the best, if not the best, singer-songwriters of all time. "Blue" is absolutely a masterpiece, soothing and captivating lyrics with a high dose of emotions in her bird-like voice. Favorite song "A Case of You".
Joni remains my favourite ever female artist, and as much as I love Patti Smith, Kate Bush, The Sundays etc, she has always been a country mile ahead of anyone else.
Blue is the album, it is quite simply a masterpiece and as good as anything in the history of that whole singer-songwriter-confessional genre, male or female!
The best songs on Blue like A Case Of You, California, River and The Last Time I Saw Richard are just so good, and Little Green could bring a tear to a glass eye!

Some of the best music I ever heard. Some of the best lessons I ever got through music. Some of the most interesting musical experiments I ever heard. Some of the best arrangements I ever heard.
Is music a competition? I don't think anyone could compete with her.
Her songwriting and talent for writing lyrics is on par with Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens. Blue is an album that will continue to stand the test of time. My personal favourite song of hers is A Case Of You.

Her music is bewitching, captivating, filled with emotion, and so unique! Stylistically she progressed through different periods (lyrically and musically): the captivating storytelling of "Song to a Seagull", the bright-eyed "Clouds", the sophistication of "Blue", the forlorn and jazzy "Hissing of Summer Lawns", and the spectral "Hejira". Some of her albums are perfect, others are not, but for at least the first nine, there are always several spectacular tracks on each one.
On the whole, she is underrated. Yes, she is already considered one of the best female artists in history. But people are much more likely to mention the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, David Bowie for the 70s than Joni Mitchell. There's just no rationale for this. Joni Mitchell's music is just as groundbreaking, if not more so.
Every now and then I go through a period where I'm utterly obsessed with Joni Mitchell. I'm very happy whenever that happens.
