So intricate it makes you wonder how on earth they (with Brian Eno co-producing) managed to record it. This will remain modern decades from now.

The summation of Bowie's extraordinary 1970s; an imaginary compilation with only new songs. His last truely great album for a long, long time.

10 years after "McCartney" and in the midst of another breaking-up band (Wings), Paul goes totally solo again, this time with a very different electronic, synth-heavy vibe. If you like McCartney when he is a hard-hitting singer, a piano ballad man or a meticulous pop craftsman, you'll feel short-changed here. If you enjoy his experimental, goofy side, his "mad scientist" persona still coming up (pun intended) with catchy melodies and quirky hooks, you'll love this album, as I do. For the record, this is music that snapped John Lennon out of his 5-year retreat from music-making.

After a 5-year silence, John was back, with Yoko, for an album of finely crafted (and still tart at times) songs to reflect where they were at by then: mostly middle-aged contentment. The promising start of a new phase? Some loony with a gun disagreed...
