Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Highly original chart, filled with albums you don't usually see in an average Top 100. Nice to see Nina at #1 and Hadestown in the Top 10! Plus a whole bunch of stuff I haven't even heard. Will check some of these out.

The High Priestess of Soul at No.1 wow ! Then there is your obvious love of female voices different singers from me but I appreciate the female voice almost as much. I will need to check out a lot of these albums I think I am going to be enjoying a great week.

This is the type of chart I simply adore spending time with and discovering artists/albums that have bypassed me in my own personal journey through modern music. We only have 3 albums in common, including JJ Cale's brilliant 'Naturally'. Through this chart I have discovered Australian (Berlin based) artist Justine Electra ~ and for that I am most grateful.

Very good collection I like your piick for Nina Simone and the tallest man on Earth and Antony and the Johnsons but i like more rock like David Bowie or The police here.
