Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Can't argue with what you love ~
As an observation: would have liked to see some recognition of music before the 1990's; would have liked to see a broader capture of artists (giving 30% of your valuable chart space to only 7 artists means that you could be missing so much more that modern music has to offer).
Will be interesting to see what 10 albums get added over time to bring your chart up to 100.
I liked seeing the two Tame Impala albums in your chart - and if you have the time, there are many more amazing indie artists in Australia, waiting to be discovered.
I liked being introduced to Lola Marsh and Volcano Choir via your chart.

Apart from the few trip hop artists (Björk, Portishead and Massive Attack) the chart is exclusively indie/alternative rock, not to mention nothing pre-1991. Great picks in this specific field but for me this is just a good start at a greatest ever album chart sorry.
