Wolfgang Voigt is back as Gas, and he's never sounded so dark and ominous. Voigt has always been good at making ambient music, and "Narkopop" is just another example of how good he continues to be. It's grim and dark, it drones without every becoming stale or boring. Ambient music is tricky, it can be amazing or it can be boring as anything, and "Narkopop" is closer to the former than than the latter. [First added to this chart: 06/15/2017]

Frowning's style of funeral doom is intense. It seems almost cliche to add the word "extreme" to any genre of metal, but it feels appropriate here. "Extinct" is an impressive, but difficult work of art. It requires an open-mindedness and it requires your attention. What I like most is that Frowning are able to establish their own identity on this album, they don't just fall into the large pool of generic doom metal, or even generic funeral doom metal, but they create something that has their stamp on it, something that is theirs. It's well done, and the version of Frederic Chopin's "The Funeral March" is especially excellent. [First added to this chart: 05/24/2017]

Like always a very eclectic choice. I only know two albums in your list but makes me want to listen to the rest. I'm listening to the seven pigs as I'm typing this: from the first track I don't know yet: the second is already more appealing...
