The songs on this collection were recorded between 1947 and 1950, almost all played solo by Hopkins, and all of them great. Hopkins was a blues guitarist (and occasional organist...blues on a Hammond is a creepy thing) from Texas. The songs are taken from 78 RPM recordings, so they have that old record sound to them. Hopkins was a great vocalist and his guitar style was highly influential on the generation of blues rock performers who came after him. The Gold Star Sessions is a multiple volume set that covers his most productive early years.
Hopkins died in 1982 at the age of 70. An almost forgotten blues pioneer, he's always well worth hearing. [First added to this chart: 05/25/2018]

Interesting chart! I can't rate as I've only heard maybe 3-5% of the albums on it - amazing how much music there is out there!
