Sometimes the truth hurts. If there's one '90s album that sees its influence up until this day, it's this one. Every EDM act since then, all the subgenres in Europe that it sparked up, and all the while it captured the mood of the '90s generation perfectly: stupidity and empty provocation. And by allowing yourself to see the beauty of that makes the truth hurt a bit less. [First added to this chart: 12/27/2019]

The '90s often come with a sinister feeling. Angst for the future and urban life. Trip hop catches that feeling perfectly. [First added to this chart: 09/06/2018]

The last breath of rock's legacy. Kevin Shields fucks his guitars up so bad; a Hendrix fever dream, there was no way to go anymore. All the complexity is in the effects, the accents, de-emphases and nothing in the song-writing, -structure, as was the true meaning of rock (common misconception by prog-rockers). Noise finally found its place in music that was its own. And meanwhile it made the emo subculture. [First added to this chart: 09/06/2018]

Aphex Twin's best asset has always been to give the listener a guaranteed bad time. It's horror, industrial, it never uhh... appoints (what's the antithesis of "disappoints"...?). [First added to this chart: 12/27/2019]

It inspired among others Destiny's Child to change up their style from a Mary J. Blige knock-off to a more interesting TLC knock-off, and the rest is history. [First added to this chart: 06/25/2020]

Stylistically we never saw this back, but it influenced many future rappers - vocalists rather - in spirit, be it the hedonism of Lil Wayne's growls, or the satanism of Playboi Carti's squeals. [First added to this chart: 12/27/2020]

As a from-the-underground genre there is not one point where it originated from; it just evolved. But surely Congo Natty is one of the better acts that sparked from it.
