Top 96 Greatest Music Albums by bobnickmad Unknown

The longer this chart becomes the harder it is to find a mix between personal favorites and those records in each genre that I would recommend to someone else.
Also, I find metal quite hard to properly rate among other rock and pop albums because what metal tries to convey is a bit different, going more toward a sense of large scale over the personal. It's even harder with jazz.

Coltrane really speaks through the instrument here. The way the four pieces are arranged as complimentary mental states create an overall narrative structure that compensate for the lack of words. This is pure emotional expression. [First added to this chart: 12/19/2021]

The Beatles, Velvet Underground, Bob Dylan and the likes pushed rock music from something fun but very basic to further potential, but Jimmi Hendrix had more ambition than all the 60s greats, pushing his music further instrumentally and production wise, but without loosing what made rock fun and relatable in the first place. Definite artistic statement. Has anyone changed the definition of singing like Dylan did here ? It`s like each lyric is cut in marble and written with an impressionistic brush. [First added to this chart: 07/27/2020]

I see this album as nr.1 on many official best album charts, and I agree with the sentiment.
The experimentalism here seems more genuine than on Sg.Peppers and more groundbreaking then V.U. and Nico, but it`s all integrated in their sense of the perfect pop melody which they already mastered like a magic formula. If only they could have written longer songs.

Pop-rock perfection. Bowie already proved on his previous album, Hunky Dory, that he could be on par with his idols (Dylan and Lou Reed) when it came to song-writting, but the instrumentation did not felt cohesive enough; here he makes everything more elegant, and the result is a complete masterpiece of pop melody and rock'n'roll energy. 21st Century Schizoid Man is one of the highlights of music, be it modern or classical. The other pieces take a more sublte approach, but it feels like it was meant to be played at a great court in a high fantasy setting. [First added to this chart: 01/25/2023]

Takes the unbelievable energy and agression of their debut, mixes ut with great songwritting, the perfect balance of diversity for a metal album, the best track order of any album (except Master of Puppets and A Love Supreme), and a sound that is both massive, raw and majestic.
