Top 37 Music Albums of 2007 by mrmcrook

Not a bad year for music. Apart from the top two on this list being clear front runners, all others are very close and hard to place in any definitive order. Hence those near the bottom are not bad at all, just where they sit in the rankings for the time being

My top 10 favorite songs from 2007
1. The Chemical Brothers - = placing: The Salmon Dance + The Pills wont help you now
2. Nightwish - The Islander
3. Queens of the Stone Age - Into the Hollow
4. Powderfinger - Lost and Running
5. LCD Soundsystem - North American Scum
6. Velvet Revolver - Let it Roll
7. Nightwish - Last of the Wilds
8. Alter bridge - Blackbird
9. Within Temptation - The Howling
10. Bloc Party - The Prayer

82.27 Bit more of a jolting tone and some sharper turns on most tracks than what was on previous albums. Song quality not quite matching either, but on that being said, this is still a great album with some outstanding tracks. Even when QOTSA make a sub par album for their standards, it's still an album that fucks over most that are put out by other bands. You can't fail with a QOTSA album. 04/24 [First added to this chart: 10/14/2020]

Top notch solo effort. I've always liked Serj's vocals and style and this doesn't disappoint. Not equal to his SOAD work but still bloody great. Better than expected and has held the test of time well also. 10/22 [First added to this chart: 10/14/2020]

81.15 An album of straight forward rock. A lot of high caliber tracks done well by class musicians. Better than the majority of Stone Temple Pilots albums. Better than most GnR albums. It was a fine marriage. Some cracking tracks on this with some solid riffs. [First added to this chart: 10/14/2020]

80.55 Reminds me of the Chemical Brothers in a lot of parts. Great rhythmic electronic rock. One that you can forget how good it is if you don't pull it out for an occasional listen. It was 'North American Scum' that got me onto this. Still as great as the first time I heard it 07/22 [First added to this chart: 10/14/2020]

Found this very pedestrian when I first got it. Sat at the back for a period of time. On revisiting I'm enjoying it more each time. Not actually bad at all. Couple of filler tracks in the back half but overall pretty good 12/20 [First added to this chart: 10/14/2020]

76.00* Very steady album that thumps along. Mark Tremonti's a skilled guitarist who plays with grunt. Myles Kennedy is one of the modern era's great vocalists. Some killer heavy tunes on this. Vocals are very similar sounding to Slash with Myles (why wouldn't they be. It's the same guy), but a lot of the tracks on this are of a higher quality. However, it's a 50/50 of memorable v's unmemorable tracks. 05/25 [First added to this chart: 08/16/2024]

Wasn't sure what to make of this at first. But it's grown on me massively. Hard rock with heavy funky rhythms. It's a great album. [First added to this chart: 09/02/2023]

75.81* With this he matured and seems to have made an effort to do a traditional rock album. Better than his  previous albums as there's a wider variety of styles on this. Some country rock, Americana, couple of the white boy rock rap, bit of gospel backing vocals and attempts at heartfelt rock which almost verge on ballads. He's not a wordsmith at all as there's some horrible lyrics but look past that and the music's alright. 05/25 [First added to this chart: 09/13/2023]

My early dabbling into death metal. Love the pounding thrash rhythms. Still getting accustomed to the vocals though. 09/22 [First added to this chart: 10/14/2020]

Marilyn Manson is an interesting one. Some of the more instrumentally dominant tracks are really good. And sometimes his vocals fit really well within the song. But more often than not , his vocals don't have enough range hence vocal dominated tracks seem to all have too much of a similar feel. Mostly quite a heavy goth tinged sound with this album. Not bad, just lacking in some variety due to the vocals. 08/24 [First added to this chart: 08/23/2024]
