I cannot believe that in 2021, Tyler The Creator wouldn't even crack the top 100 yet a Bladee album got into top 50, let alone top 20. That's MAD y'know! Coming from a person who has literally no idea why Drain Gang has any form of fanbase and/or artistic value, The Fool was such a surprise for me. I feel like I understand DG and Bladee more now (I still cannot get into much of his earlier stuff though - yet this album helped me see it with different lenses on). But The Fool is really, in terms of its vibe, a drainy album - but the most comfortable and sophisticated way. Especially the first three songs, they bang! Maybe this record was a strong enough pill to get me drained...
If you take a walk at the beach (at nearly any weather) while listening to this, it'll most likely fit. If you fall asleep to it, you'll most likely get wavy dreams. And since Bladee is a dope personality, like a child exploring the new things in the world [Punk Revolution Now, 2021], his outcome of music is very calm. It seems like he releases music for his fans and because he just loves it. And y'know what, I support and respect that.
But obviously, most of the album still has to grow on me... but in terms of longevity and atmosphere, we're heading in the right direction. I'm close to a breakthrough!
Edit 2022: I think I'm a half-drainer now, this is the 2021 album I've played the most. Although I could be bias because he doesn't really use that much autotune on The Fool (then again (as of May 2022), my new favorite of his is Gluee).
Edit 2025: not very consistent, so it dropped out of essentials but dammit I got memories with the best songs here. Still a good album! [First added to this chart: 10/23/2025]
