I do not listen to music from my own country, but Burnout is a standout. Both musically and lyrically. Calby is a songwriter in league of other 2021 cats, and surely has an inner passion that, in the highpoints of Burnout, finally comes out, and it contains elements of instrumental and lyrical warmth. But of course, it ain't always an intriguing listen - tracks like Coma and Nice Life is, because of their lack of honing and songwriting focus in comparison with the rest, mediocre result of songs. Coco O. moves on It's A Process with style close to roots in the soul tradition, but is not afraid to try and modernize it a bit - from Worry's Sade-eseque energy, to the flooding Spanish guitar intro in Cruelty, two of the album's best songs. Or, to the more rocked, almost caricatured 80s sound on Ions, albeit less polished. Mit Sind (translation: My Mind) also differs as the album's only Danish song and calls with its tender-skinned strength, but the tenderness looses potency with the weary effect on Coco's vocals. Key track though is Something Real, where the reverb on her self-contained voice and saxophone seriously light the song up a lot. The 90s pop-infiltrated drum loop makes it perhaps 2021's best slow dancing tune.
The album does not express itself as being either top-produced or deeply elaborated. On the contrary, it suggests a relatively quick release in the wake of a series of studio sessions. Like the fly on the wall, you visit these sessions in a safe and calm atmosphere in Coco's arms, right where she wants to be, but unfortunately also where it gets too flat to be dense enough. The sound of the half-finished tracks is due to the careless attitude and the simple DIY approach that reduces the musician Coco O. from her obvious international talent to small tracks that only settle briefly in body and memory. That can be an advantage, shown in Unlock, that, with its unfinished instrumentation, gives it a "less is more" sphere to it. But also it can be a bad idea, clearly demonstrated through Bad At All, a toothless ballad and nothing else. [First added to this chart: 05/26/2025]

My least favorite album from the biggest modern band reppin' Denmark(!!!), Iceage. They're just...kind of... taking it on the routine. Plowing's emotional consistency and Beyondless' solid instrumentation is absent on Seek Shelter.
With the exception of Drink Rain, that is a bang, calling back to some of their best material. [First added to this chart: 05/26/2025]

To look at it generally, it's a poor to alright international trap-r&b sounding record from danish singer Betty Bass. Her presence, vocally, lacks identity and atmospheric development, but is technically somewhat clean. She is writing mediocre material, over clichéd production that ranges from awful to periodically good. And it's still preferable to a lot of late R&B-music, released by major US-singers. But that doesn't save it from being an anonyme product that doesn't beautify to much more than background music for a chill wave. [First added to this chart: 05/26/2025]
