Excellent, almost conceptual album. Beautifully orchestrated and maybe their answer to "Sgt. Pepper" with classical influences and even psychedelic undertones in "Strawberry Swing". Whether or not they ripped off the melody of "Viva La Vida", they definitely improved it and turned it into something great.

Which Elbow album is the better? Is it this one? I really can't decide, but "The Seldom Seen Kid" is probably the most refined Elbow album. Crème brûlée for the ears with an eargasmic mixture of lush instrumentation and Guy Garvey's soothing voice.

I've had some extreme religious experiences with this album. Imagine you're sitting on a cloud and the stars from above are shining on you. And you're on ecstacy. And you're having sex with the love of your life for the first time. And you've never had sex before. And you've just won the lottery. And you're drunk too. Okay, was that too much? But you get my point, the album is EPIC!

"Kid B" is almost as good as "Kid A". I dare say that it might be even more daring than "Kid A" with a track like "Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors". The last true journey through the land of Radiohead paranoia!

Elbow had it from start! The debut here is edgier and more reminiscent of Radiohead than the next Elbow albums. Just great for the ears and the soul all around, even if "Powder Blue" is the definite stroke of genius here.

Within the mystic of Steve Roach's nearly 6 hours long epic journey. Mystic chords and sacred spaces distributed on 29 pieces of infinity all spiralling in deep electronic textures. Not for the ones who suffer from short attention span!

At the time my interest in albums was slowly coming to the surface, this was the first album I bought that wasn't a Beatles album. The music might not be strong enough to dismantle an atomic bomb, but it holds a lot of nostalgic value for me. Yes, more nostalgia. The album also has that very memorable chorus that some people might love and others might hate, the unforgettable words of "Vertigo": "Hello, Hello... Hola! I'm at a place called vertigo...". Yes, that's Spanish they included there!

Axl Rose and friends (I guess?) back with a new album for the first time in 15 years. Anticipations were madly high with such a big name, but the album was considered somewhat of a flop. Not by me, however. Essentially, the album consists of 14 attempts at another "November Rain" and while none of them are as great, the album still succeeds at being epic, regardless of how oddly overproduced it is. Full of atmospherics and unlike other Guns N' Roses albums, it's an experience rather than just a bunch of songs. Apparently, it's also the most expensive album ever produced!

The album cover is kinda awful, but the music is the exact opposite. "And the Glass Handed Kites" can easily be labelled millions of different genres, but to name a few: alternative rock, dream pop, shoegazing, new prog. It's the kind of album that you need to hear from start to finish, but also spawned some of the three most popular danish singles of all time: "Apocalypso", "Special" & "The Zookeeper's Boy". It's dark and intimidating, and still very dreamy. Especially the last half of the album is proggy, but serves as a grand finale.

Quiet, beautifully understated follow-up to "The Good Life". There are shades of Kashmir as a rock band, but the rockier moments usually only appear in small glimpses between all the subdued balladry. "Rocket Brothers" doesn't only stand out on this album, but might even be their biggest and most well-known song of their entire career. It's a great album, but took me much longer to appreciate than "The Good Life", a grower for sure!

I tend to agree with you about the backlash against Coldplay--I think they're a fine band that's made a lot of great, emotionally resonant music. I don't think they deserve the Nickelback treatment at all. (And neither does U2, but that's a story for another day.) So I appreciate your chart for putting A Rush of Blood to the Head at #1. I also love Funeral (I know everyone does, but it's for good reason), Illinois, Fleet Foxes, and Chutes Too Narrow, among many of your other selections. I really enjoy your detailed comments, too.
