Perhaps as a result of being alluded to as 'the new Beatles' in the nineties, Oasis has come to be viewed as just another Britpop band that has failed to live up to this comparison. But let's be honest, Oasis just made some ridiculously good music. When Definitely Maybe came out, perhaps there was reason to worry that they would turn into one of those bands that started off on the right foot and then failed to match the precedent they created with their debut. But then they released (What's The Story) Morning Glory? and all doubts to their greatness should have been dispelled at that moment. I will admit that there really did not come with any albums after that to merit being considered some of the best ever, but notice that many of the songs from this website's top 20 song list for Oasis are not on either of their first two albums. They still had good songwriting but they were never able to create a whole album that was as perfect as their first two. I do not feel that that should detract from the praise they should be receiving for their early work and the songs that they continued to pump out at a steady, albeit less explosive pace.

Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory are both fantastic albums. I listened to the rest of their discography after that and nothing comes close except maybe a couple few good songs. 70/100 is a generous score for Oasis.

A good time rock n roll band, great live, exciting with a sense of humour - saying Oasis overhyped themselves is missing the point.

To think that these guys were my favourite band at one point...my goodness my tastes have changed very drastically. While I don't listen to them as much anymore, I had to start somewhere. Oasis was the first band I took extremely seriously and for good reason. Definitely Maybe, I think, is still considered one of the best debut albums of all time and (What's The Story?) Morning Glory plays as a decent follow up. They even created some of the greatest songs I have ever heard (my favourite is by far Champagne Supernova). Noel Gallagher is still a favourite of mine when trying to create simple and catchy melodies and he was the one that inspired me to pick up a guitar. Oasis are no longer relevant to me anymore but I'll never forget the impact they've made on me: if a younger me hadn't listened to them, I'd be lost.
