Oasis is one of those bands that people love to hate. They came onto the scene when the grunge movement was coming to halt. Oasis started off their career with an amazing debut, one of the best all time. They followed it up with another album considered even better than their debut. They produced some pretty great songs lyrically and musically on those two albums, and the albums as a whole felt complete. After those first two albums, they still made some decent songs, but none of their albums truly compared to the first two. Tension between the Gallagher brothers caused their downfall. They had a lot of potential, but ultimately could not deliver the same consistent level of quality.

Would I say they were the best band of the Manchester-Britpop era? Absolutely.

Would I say they were a Top 10 nineties band? Probably.

Would I say they were the best band since The Beatles? Definitely not, not even close.

It's a shame they couldn't put together any truly amazing albums after their first two.

I think they get all this hate for two reasons:
1. Their personality. Specially Liam's constant disrespect towards other bands throw people off.
2. Their fans. Oasis are one of those rock bands that are "untouchable". If you criticize them you'll instantly have tons of outraged Oasis fans insulting you.

Musically they're pretty good, though they seem a bit "formulaic", always use the same progressions and guitar tone with too little experimentation for my taste.

My last comment on this band from a few years ago was downvoted into hell, as I overzealously proclaimed them "the greatest British band since the Beatles." While I obviously do not feel comfortable making a statement like that anymore, the fact is that many people did feel that way in the 90s. Oasis brought back a very populist everyman attitude to rock and roll that had been missing for quite some time. There was nothing particularly high-concept about them, and they certainly weren't making any grand political statements. Instead, they just released two of the greatest albums of the 90s, filled with working class anthems courtesy of a wonderfully gifted songwriter and a sneering cocksure singer. To call them pretentious is to miss the point. For two short but glorious years, they WERE the best band in the world.

No, they do not deserve to be higher than Outkast. I can only guess that you've never listened to them and assume that they're awful because it's rap. Outkast were innovative, Oasis were derivative.

Hit n' miss for me, I can't even remember what they did on the new millenium because their songs aren't as memorable as their nineties years.
The first two albums were ok, pretty good, but after those two everything they did was bland brit pop, repeating everything they did, no innovation, all the songs sounding the same.
An average rock band it is for me

I don't get all this hate against Oasis.

They clearly deserve higher rating than a poor 71/100. They are far better than idk...Outkast for exemple (which is 10 f**king points higher).
Oasis deserves at least an 80/100.

And c'mon, Morning Glory 81/100???? It has to be irrational hate, because it's a fantastic album which I wouldn't give less than a 85/100.

All about the first two albums for me...after that there were some highlights but not the overall impact of those two. Listening back now its a lot of the so-called B-sides that stand out.
