"As a big Daniel fan, I find this album a nice middle ground between his lighter, piano driven early work (Songs of Pain) and the dark, scattered sound to come (Hi How Are You, Yip/Jump). My Yoke is Heavy and The Story of an Artist are some of my favorites, too."  Reply

"It's not bad. It's a really interesting album with some fantastic drum beats and unique basslines, but overall it seemed like there were more okay songs than great songs. It's not as good as TNT, but it's still a substantial effort. Best tracks: Eros, Blackjack, Speakeasy Worst tracks: Firefly, E..."  [+]  Reply

"I'm not entirely sure the length is justified as I feel a few of the tracks could be removed to make it more concise and not as tiresome. Still, it's a great album with plenty of detail and intrigue. I've been reading that this album is not an easy one to get into, but I'm not sure that's entirel..."  [+]  Reply

"The third of the major label releases (even though this ended up back on Drag City), Royal Trux is still flushing out their more accessible sound, and once again, it actually works. This one boogies."  Reply

"Best cuts: "Black Pearl", " Da Doo Ron Ron" and "Marshmallow World", although it is hard to pick one best. These first two songs would be in my all time top 10 tracks. "Black Pearl" is the perfect R/B song and it could be the best record ever made IMO,... everything on this song has direction.. f..."  [+]  Reply

"Killer JA LP, and one of the 3 best albums ever released by Studio One (along with Soul Beat by The Gaylads and On Top by The Heptones) in this writer's humble opinion. An important gateway LP for those a little tentative about the genre. This is proto-dancehall delivered with one of the smoothes..."  [+]  Reply
