Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.9/100, a mean average of 73.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.7.

I recall the singles at the time and quite liking her - bit edgy, punky, interesting. I hadn't heard the album until a few years ago and although fairly simplistic and some songs sound like they could have been written and put together by a school band, it is overall an enjoyable listen. Rooted in the 80's so it hasn't particularly dated well but Come Into The Air and Eight Day easily make a worthwhile listen

I doubt I will ever tire of this album - and it is comfortably up there with my other favourite albums. The stand out track is "Will You?" which was a top 10 hit in UK. The Sax on this is hauntingly beautiful! All the tracks though have their merit - so that accounts for the high rating I've given it.
