Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 80.8/100, a mean average of 79.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.3.

This record is quite short on high points unlike most of his records which are packed full of them. There are only a couple songs I would pick out to individually listen to again. Despite this, as a full body of work it is so cohesive and fits together perfectly. The record just works from beginning to end. It has beautiful and delicate instrumentation with the guitar work being a stand out. The vocal is soothing and almost angelic which fits the lyrics magnificently and its this overall cohesiveness that makes this album such a great listen as it leaves you feeling completely fulfilled. Overall, a wonderful album that is a few outstanding tracks away from competing with his best work.

A triumphant proof that a human, down to earth take on spirituality is not only possible, but very attractive, too.

Definitely among my favorite Sufjan records. Simple instrumentation, jarringly soothing vocals, and beautiful lyricism make this album one of his best

This album is so underrated.

To Be Alone With You might just be my favourite Sufjan song. So simple, but each note reaches out and wraps its fingers around your heart.

Sufjan's less known and more folksy album, filled with some great instrumentation and lyrical content.

One of the best straight up folk albums out there. This album is honestly just as good as Illinois but is around 700 slots down on the overall. Give more love please <3

Released inbetween the, Michigan, and, Illinois, albums, seven swans, is a fine record. Superior in my opinion to the recent, Carrie and Lowell, it features some stunning songs. To be alone with you, this dress looks nice on you, and, size too small, are all excellent. The best Sufjan Stevens record not about an American state.
