This ones divided the community. Critics are ok with it. Fans not so much. This is Kasabian by name only for much has happened since their previous 2017 release. Tom (boo hiss) Meighan is gone. Serge Pizzorno fills the lead vocals vacancy and at the same time changes the sound and direction of the band which is a good thing as recent releases have sounded tired and uninspired
Here we seem to have a concept album of some description but what that narrative is isn’t abundantly clear. Gone is the trade mark Kasabian rave-rock and instead replaced with largely electronica and small doses of rap , ballads, arena rock and straight up pop
It doesn’t always hit the mark but I always give extra marks for any artist going outside of their stale comfort zone and trying something different
As a side note, this album cover looks suspiciously like the album cover for Daft Punks ‘Random Access Memories’. Considering how electronic heavy this album is its kind of ironic don’t you think?
