Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 63.8/100, a mean average of 61.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 61.5/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 22.2.

Although they only have 1 album that might be called 'great' (Follow The Leader), they do have many other great songs between their other albums. They offer a lot to metal, and Jonathan Davis' vocals are iconic, and part of what earned them a niche market that no one else could fill. A strength that sets them apart from many other metal bands is their ability to not always take themselves too seriously (songs like Shoots and Ladders, Twist, etc). It gives a credibility to the emotion in their music, whereas the one-note emotion in other metal bands (which are constantly angry about everything), ends up being tuned out as white noise after a while. For this reason, Korn is a step apart and a step above.
They're not the best my metal band but they have done some decent songs that I kinda like.
I feel stupid for ever loving this band (I seriously did at one point in time).
Alright now Korn, aren't the best of nu metal bands, they are mediocre, there are much better nu metal bands out there like "Slipknot" or "System of a Down". Though the reason they are mediocre, is because of the complete rubbish they have produced after the 90s, the last good album being "Untouchables". If you listen to Korn, don't bother with post 90s career, the likes of their debut album and follow the leader are excellent.
best nu metal band
Perhaps more proof of a band just staying together far too long after their most inspired work, largely getting lost among their copious and often terrible imitators. At the beginning there was an intriguing energy to the band, and a particulary murky, sexually-and-mentally-tortured vision but got distracted with all the musical toys they had to play with later, and then their new millenial attempts to recapture their earlier sound was particulary trite. Still, they did some fine work and their earliest albums still can be geniunely disturbing at certain points.
I don't actually hate Korn. Their brand of nu-metal is leagues better than most of the crap in the genre. It's just that they suffer from the residue of all the bands they inspired (Limp Biskit, anyone?) and I find nu-metal in general a little tiresome.
I have to admit having a soft spot for these guys, it's a shame that they couldn't have put together a more cohesive album. They have some select, quality stuff, just not enough to put them in the category of "good".
Awesome band!
Korn has a couple decent songs but no good albums. I don't think Korn is terrible but I don't think they are anywhere near good either. I would recommend not purchasing any albums from Korn as it would be a waste of money. Best songs: Freak on a Leash, Clown, Shoots and Ladders, and Blind.
