Fates Warning should be credited more often for being the founders of the progressive metal genre. After a start with a good debut as an Iron Maiden influenced band, they created the progmetal genre with the stellar albums that followed. Ever humble, this band never made a bad album and has stayed at the top of the genre for over 35 years now (2022). Jim Matheos, Ray Alder, John Arch, Joey Vera and Bobby Jarzombek are amongst my most respected musicians.
Since they changed their sound and style quite often, diving into their discography is one hell of a ride and highly recommended.

Outstanding progressive metal group with soaring vocals, a kickass drummer, and a wicked good two guitar attack. Everyone in the group is a supremely talented and accomplished musician and they all come together seamlessly despite the complexity of the compositions. Great songwriting for the most part as well.
