The greatest soundtrack to any outdated 1950s movie. The strings sound so magically nostalgic and the overall arrangements are as charming as any Disney film, except a lot moodier. How I long for those simpler times!

Take a time out with this splendid jazz album, one of the greatest if not THE greatest cool jazz album out there. Apparently, it visits many different time signatures throughout, but for the most part it's very relaxing and elegant oozing with 1950s nostalgia.

Billie Holliday in satin. Beautifully fragile and heartbreaking in a sorta creepy, haunting way!

Appealing to the lonely, very much! Profoundly slow ride that overall weeps and suffers more than "In the Wee Small Hours". Couldn't be further away from "Songs for Swingin' Lovers!"!

Mingus ah um! This album is indeed very delicious and pleasurable. Without being easy-listening music, it's a great place to start your jazz journey. Very melodic for the most part with some enjoyably busy parts in places.

Cry a river with this woman. The music's fittingly lo-fi (in comparison to the music from this era that used lots of orchestration). There's not much beyond her voice, a bass (double, I think) and an atmospheric jazzy guitar which overall give it its lonely, late-night, incredible mood.

Every day, it's a-getting further and further away from unique rock 'n' roll performers/singer-songwriters like Buddy Holly. Buddy just had something very different from the others with his softer and quirkier approach and gift for melody.

Innocent rock 'n' roll with cute "chirping" background vocals. Back then, it was some of the freshest music around, today it seems harmless and beautifully old-fashioned. Listen to those adorable call and response backing vocals in "Oh, Boy!" and tell me you didn't nearly die realizing how effing long time ago this album was recorded!

Moody, kind of blue, but above all classic jazz album. The intro to ”So What” is one of the greatest intros ever of any genre. A perfect starting point for any jazz newcomer and an all-round cool pleasurable listening experience.

The king of rock and roll when he was... the prince of rock and roll, I guess. The sound, the style, the vocal style, everything you needed from him. His most shocking album, if solely because it was his first!
