I don't know what Coldplay did wrong. Getting too much airplay, (Chris Martin) acting like Bono, generally just being too much softies? It really shouldn't be because of this rush of blood to the head that they got such a bad name. Only epic songs, especially the title-track, made with so much heart and soul.

Shamefully overlooked, inside and outside Denmark. Figurines combine modern quirky indie-rock with, on this album, new psychedelic 60s influences not unlike The Beach Boys and The Zombies. I once saw Figurines perform "Childhood Verse" on television and I was left completely mesmerized. A magic gem of an album!

My favourite Muse album and the most expansive, up till this point anyway. It's a courageous band not afraid of flirting heavily with latin music and using a large symphony. Details such as the atmospheric intro/outro of "Resistance" and the classical outro "Collateral Damage" (not their own composition, I know) of "United States of Eurasia" hooked me instantly. Well-rounded, a location in the outer space and just outright epic, this should be regarded as Muse's best album.

It's because of the times that I got involved with Kings of Leon in the first place. Their commercial breakthrough with "Sex on Fire" and "Use Somebody" hadn't cooled off yet in 2010, but I picked this one up instead. First impressions weren't big, but the album has unfolded itself since. Maybe unlike any other KoL album, they weren't taking themselves too much or too little seriously. Great energy, yet it oozes of ambience.

On a lonely night, this is the perfect album to listen to. I always think of the words "I'm not here, this isn't happening" when I'm full of despair. Actually, I see the whole album as a guideline for how to mentally disappear completely. "Kid A" was born a malformed, but disturbingly beautiful kid.

Not your standard straightforward Foo Fighters album. The beginning is exactly what you'd expect from these guys. It kicks more ass than ever, but then slowly segues into something lighter, more acoustic and a little more experimental, at least for Foo Fighters. It was back then by far the heaviest album I had listened to. Today, it's not so heavy, but brings back many breezy memories.

Judging alone from the catchy single, "Two Weeks", "Veckatimest" could easily be labelled as just another good indie rock album. But it's not! Folk rock mixes in with a nostalgic orchestra. The music is mostly understated and mysterious, but reaches an epic height with "I Live with You". An album that contains the magic I miss on nearly any album released today.

The message is unmistakable on the most apocalyptic Muse album to date: This is the end of the world! Overdramatic awesomeness is simply not found any better! Regarding the album cover, I'm not going to reveal how long it took for my little brain to realize that there was something paradoxical about the man's shadow and the other shadows. That would just be embarrassing!

Coldplay's debut is shockingly mellow and actually very atmospheric. It isn't a full-developed Coldplay, but they used their trump card, melancholia, so wisely that they didn't need to write songs as good as the ones on "A Rush of Blood to the Head" in order to make a great album. The hidden "Life Is for Living" sums up the album so perfectly, an album well suited for rainy days.

Kashmir is a rather peaceful band, but "No Balance Palace" differs a little from this rule by having a more claustrophobic atmosphere. Still heavily influenced by Radiohead, the tracks "Diana Ross" and "Black Building" are their answers to "Treefingers" and "Fitter Happier" respectively (the latter with Lou Reed performing the spoken words instead of a computer voice), though I'm not quite sure it's a great idea to copy the weakest track on two albums, disregarding the fact that they're masterpieces. Wooh! Did I just mention a celebrity? There's one more: David Bowie is appearing on "The Cynic"!! Promotion done.

I tend to agree with you about the backlash against Coldplay--I think they're a fine band that's made a lot of great, emotionally resonant music. I don't think they deserve the Nickelback treatment at all. (And neither does U2, but that's a story for another day.) So I appreciate your chart for putting A Rush of Blood to the Head at #1. I also love Funeral (I know everyone does, but it's for good reason), Illinois, Fleet Foxes, and Chutes Too Narrow, among many of your other selections. I really enjoy your detailed comments, too.
