Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Really nice chart. Illinois is fantastic and totally deserving of being at number one of the 00's (I myself have it at number 2).
Also, Moon & Antarctica is another favourite of mine and it's nice to see it here. But looking further down, I see A Fever You Can't Sweat Out on the list. That's awesome! Not many people round here appreciate that album. You're the only one besides me who gave it a full hundred.
Still, I could only give you a 95 because of Sigur Rós, Daft Punk, and The Postal Service, all of which I dislike. Other than that I love what I see, and I'll be sure to check out Fleet Foxes when I get a chance.
