I'm still slowly, but surely, making my way through a lot of albums, but I wanted to post my first ever list of my favorite albums. I'd like to think my taste is pretty eclectic, but these albums are the ones I constantly make my way back to every time. Some are just plain awesome in their inventiveness, and others are just pure beauty, and others have just gotten me through tough times. All of these are deeply personal to me in some way, and I hope to find even more to add to this list throughout my journey into musical history.

Definitely way ahead of their time, and should be talked about on the same level as many of the greatest bands of all-time. But as it is, Paul Westerberg and gang still have some of their coolest and most beautiful (in that angst-y sort of way) on this record. One of the best songwriters ever, he always knew how to write exactly from the viewpoint of a teenager/ twentysomething. They practically spawned all of the alt/punk-rock bands of the late '90s and early '00s, but they were never able to capture those 'growing pains' the way Westerberg could.

This was my first Replacements record (I was in *love* with "Skyway" and even wrote a short story in college influenced by the lyrics), and in time might end up my favorite of their works. Yeah, it loses their punk sound and goes for something a bit more accessible, but I think they knew that (the album name/ artwork kind of give the impression that they knew their fans might think they were selling out; I think they were just going for a brand new sound). It has a few pop elements, which undoubtedly earned them some (much deserved) radio play in the day (and even now), but they still never lost their edge or ability to yank emotions out of you. I think this was when Westerberg and Co. were at their songwriting peak.
