Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Thanks for the introduction to Italian albums - I listened to Lucio Battsiti's 'Images' album ~ as it is in English.
Nice to see one album from south of the equator - Tame Impala's "Currents".
As a general observation, I appreciate that these are your favourite albums (can't disagree with that) but I prefer charts that showcase a wider diversity of artists.

I really like this unique chart. I don't know the Italian artists, but otherwise our tastes are quite similar for having only 10 albums the same. Many of your choices would be in my top 200. Great to see some love for REM's most underappreciated album, Reveal. And surprisingly, you don't seem to be a big Beach Boys fan... I have discovered that many people who like Reveal are both Beach Boys and REM fans...
