Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Excellent chart
Great chart and a good mix of albums. I added a few to my list to check out! Also, it looks like your note for v2.0 is describing The Queen Is Dead.
We may be generations apart in age & greatest album choices (only a couple in common), but I really enjoyed checking out your chart & comments. All respect to you for staying true to what you like ~ especially liked the fact that you had a fair share of albums outside the top 5000! In time you may discover the extraordinary talent of Aussie artists that are not AC/DC!
After checking your chart, I'll have to go and hear Darlinside. It was weird to see Metallica and Keane together at the top butt I respect it . ¡Saludos desde México!
Bit of a weird blend of genres and artists but I dig it.
