Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

It is IMPOSSIBLE to make an objective chart so don't bother trying. Just put up a chart of your favourites and let the overall chart be the closest we'll get to objective.
No offense I just don't see the point of this.

I agree with Xavygravy, why not do a chart of what you're personal favourites are? That's what makes the site fun to visit and the main reason why I view other members charts. ;-)

Romanelli I gave your lists "trash ratings" because I honestly think you are just trying really hard to be different. Also your charts are all 60s and 70s dominated. Even your 80s and your 2000s charts have Neil Young, Tom Petty, The Beatles, Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes (live), and more that don't belong in those decades. I'm sorry but those bands are not 80s bands. Nor are they 2000s bands. I rated your charts low because I honestly think they are bad. They are not original. I didn't see many good bands that I hadn't already heard of. If being original is putting Tom Petty, The Beatles, Neil Young, and two different Ryan Adams projects in my top 10 of the 2000s then I am totally fine with being 100% unoriginal. I did not rearrange the top 200 on the overall chart either. There are 10-15 albums on my list that are not in the top 200 overall chart. I'm sorry if that is not enough for you. Thanks for the name calling (troll) on here too. That is so very respectable and mature.

As a legit, 'these are the best albums ever' not "trying to look like I listen to music that's so abstract that you don't even know where to find it", I think it's a very good list.

Haha thanks for your feedback man I appreciate it; good or bad. There is nothing wrong with your chart order if it is a favorites list. I cannot argue with that. I was under the impression that it was an objective greatest albums ever list. Thats what mine is and thats why mine isn't as quirky as some. I will add Beatles to my chart. I go decade by decade and I haven't really gotten to the 60s yet. As for the Taylor Swift bit...It's not that I don't understand...It's that she is a commercial pop sellout artist. She isn't doing anything new or original and her music is cheesy and her lyrics are childish. Sorry but I won't budge on this one. Taylor Swift's music is garbage.
