BEA forum regulars top 100 ratings

Average Rating:
90/100 (from 38 votes)
  Ratings distribution Help Average Rating = (n ÷ (n + m)) × av + (m ÷ (n + m)) × AV
where:
av = trimmed mean average rating an item has currently received.
n = number of ratings an item has currently received.
m = minimum number of ratings required for an item to appear in a 'top-rated' chart (currently 10).
AV = the site mean average rating.

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 90.5/100, a mean average of 91.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 91.6/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.7.

“It's a re run of what we did in 2013, Format worked last time so we'll keep it the same. Basically as many people as possible need to give me a list of their favourite 50 albums in order. Top album gets 50 points and bottom gets 1, scores are added up and we have our list. Submit lists via PM,…”

From RockyRaccoon 08/03/2014 05:24 in Recommend Stuff to the Music Novice
“I would highly highly recommend using for reference. It's a pretty accurate reflection of the overall preferences of the members here. It's a pretty safe bet that virtually every album on there is considered "essential" by a regular on this site.”

It's a bit surprising that Forever Changes ranked so high, I think I didn't give enough chance, I'll give it some spin soon.

Just realized there is not a single miles Davis in the top 100. This is a travesty. Like, seriously. How did this happen?!??

Okay, I will for sure give it another listen. I don't mean it in a negative way, just in a mathematical sense, it is quite a jump.
