Top 40 Greatest Music Albums
by Schismic_Porcupine
Some may not be in particular order, but these are 40 albums that have influenced me the most as a dedicated musician (drummer to be exact), as well as my personal favorite albums to listen to in their entirety. Numbers one and two are in correct order. The rest aren't really in order.

Perhaps Tool's greatest album. And not to mention, my all time favorite album.

The second best concept album of all time, next to "The Wall". Album standouts include "Dance of Eternity", "Home", "The Spirit Carries On" and "Finally Free". This album is a VERY close second in my all time favorite albums.

My favorite Metallica album, as it is without a doubt the cornerstone of Thrash Metal.

Amazing concept album. In my opinion, the best concept album of all time. Such a dark story of isolation.

The personification of heavy, progressive music. "Stream of Consciousness" is an all time favorite. And "In The Name of God" has one of the best guitar riffs I've ever heard, and serves as one of the best album closers one can ever hear.

Another great concept album of Pink Floyd. It's also interesting to note that this album has distinct heavy metal roots. "Sheep" is a prime example.

Steven Wilson's solo project is without a doubt a very diverse one, and this album covers the concept of diversity very wonderfully, I should add. From a melancholic 4 minute song "Postcard", to a chaotic 23 minute "Raider II", this double album has everything a prog-head could want. Also, keyboardist Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater special guests to add his brilliant talent throughout the album.

In my opinion, this is the greatest King Crimson album. I've never enjoyed Fripp's guitar work as much as I did listening to this album. And Bill Bruford's drumming? TOP NOTCH in this magnificent album. "Indiscipline" is the album standout, next to "Thela Hun Ginjeet".

The best Porcupine Tree album. Wonderful songs, on this one. Especially if you're fortunate enough to have the DVDA edition. "Anesthetize" is without question the album highlight. Alex Lifeson of Rush and Robert Fripp of King Crimson special guest in this wonderful album.
