Giving Bad People Good Ideas rivals Get Got and Beware for the title of "best opener to a Death Grips album". The well-sung female vocals counter Ride's outbursts and the extremely aggressive instrumentation brilliantly. Hot Head has been significantly improved from its relatively primitive earlier release, mostly down to a stronger intro and the bassline added to the main body of the song. Spikes is one of the album's bangers, and carries one of the catchiest hooks on any Death Grips track since The Fever (Aye Aye). The track Houdini is a fine showcase of Flatlander's impressive production ability. In addition, Ride's mutterings of "three, four, fuck you baby, disjointed Houdini baby" are very hard to resist muttering along to. Three Bedrooms In A Good Neighborhood is perhaps my favourite track on the entire album. The beat is absolutely killer and many of the best lyrical features on the album can be found herein. Finally, the title track closes the album with one of the most aggressive and oppressive songs Death Grips have every released, and Ride's threats of "I'll fuck you in half" somehow come off as terrifying and amusing at the same time. Bottomless Pit represents the strongest and most cohesive set of tracks the band have released since The Money Store. 86/100."  [+]  Reply

I like Elliott Smith’s previous work, all the way back to his days with the band Heatmiser, and I could see in this heavier, raw set a real breakthrough in his music. There is still debate as to what this record would have been if Smith hadn’t committed suicide before it was completed, and I tend to think that some of the lighter moments might have become a tad darker. That being said, this is a window into Smith’s tortured mind. Several tracks take on more weight realizing that these would be his last, sometimes to haunting effect. When he sings in “King’s Crossing”, “Every wave is tidal if you hang around/You’re going to get wet/I can’t prepare for death/Any more than I already have” you have to think that he meant it. For me, “Coast to Coast”, “King’s Crossing”, “A Passing Feeling”, “Shooting Star”, and especially the moving “A Distorted Reality Is Now A Necessity To Be Free” are raw, heavy, and wonderful. As one of my favorite albums, they still show that Elliott Smith had even better in him."  [+]  Reply

The only things I don't like about it are the utter separation into 4 tracks by Brendan and the other 4 by Lisa, and the repetition of Cantara (great song though). Yes, I don't like the sequencing of songs, although they are of course masterpieces. Apart from this, the scale of grandness is never to be seen in their later work as of 2014, probably in some songs but not in such a big cluster on a single album. In all these years of my endeavor of searching for something similar in style and in quality, it all just goes in vain and brings me back to Dead Can Dance ultimately..., because you simply can't say those neo-classical darkwave works by those German labels have anything better; for me, there's no better or deeper singing, nor better-innovative scoring. So I guess they're just not replicable. Surely I'm still expecting medieval or Renaissance music with a hybrid of neo-classical darkwave and ethereal chanting mixed in, but anything in this genre that would rival DCD might still be their own works, in future."  [+]  Reply

It's easy to see why we all liked it so much: the songs are snappy, the lyrics clever, the instrumentation solid. At the time "Lawyers, Guns, and Money" and "Werewolves of London" were the songs everybody knew, but upon reflection I think "Tenderness on the Block" and "Accidentally Like a Martyr" are the most lyrically mature songs here, and the ones that keep me coming back. They're also the ones that anticipate the songwriter Warren Zevon was becoming as he faced getting older and, eventually, confronted his own mortality. Overall just a very solid collection of straight-ahead rock songs."  [+]  Reply

The album's beginning tracks are a wild continuous ride full of hips shaking and head bobbing highlights. It is definitly one of those projects with a remmeberable start. It is also quite surely the original idea that would be further explored on Nonagon Infinity. However, the albums loses it's speed and infectious potency after the 4th song (or passage) , and fails to truly pick it back up in terms of punch. With that being said, this shift in momentum does not stop I'm In Your Mind Fuzz from being a very tasteful listening experience. Although quite different from the starting tracks, The Slow jams and fresh psychadelic rock ideas in the back half of the album are pretty damn good on their own. The overall sound & aesthetic are well developped & shared throughout the 10 tracks. The thick yet lushious distorted guitars, various KGLW signature arrangements and piercing (harmonica?) melodies make for a dreamy and ominous wall of frequencies in your ear. 4/5 "  [+]  Reply
