Seems outrageous that The Saints from the back blocks of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia should be mentioned in the same breath as two punk icons, but on this occasion Bobby Boy was 100% on the money. And in fact The Saints actually predated both The Sex Pistons and The Ramones by a full two years having demoed many of the tracks on this album as far back as 1975 (The Saints guitarist Ed Keupper is quoted as saying when he first heard The Sex Pistols in 77 he thought it was “game over” with his band had been playing the same sound for years prior with little to no recognition) ‘I’m Stranded’ sits not only as a landmark Australian release, its sits as the Big Bang moment for the contemporary punk sound (R.I.P Chris Bailey 1957-2022, gone but never forgotten. Discussion of the work usually centers around the subject matter, which is at first reasonable, because the political lyrical content stands out in Marley's body of work. But in my opinion the record has a lot more to offer. Survival is one of Marley's most consistent works (as others have noted); the songwriting is terrific. I would consider several of the tracks to be among my favorites of Marley, which is an astonishing claim for an album that doesn't see much attention. "So Much Trouble in the World," "Zimbabwe," and "Wake Up and Live" are all great, as is "One Drop." Frankly, I enjoy the entire record and it's incredibly easy to listen to in its entirety. There is a certain urgency to many of the songs, and to the message of the album as a single work. When Marley cries out "Rise!" on the final track, listeners are treated to an intensity (both political and emotional) that is seldom found in Marley's better-known work. "I was listening to Gregorian chants in the early 80s and somehow I missed out on Dead Can Dance in the late 80s. It's my loss. I find this album more engaging than Within the Realm of a Dying Sun. But through all this the one aspect of the album that shines the most is HIS VOICE. He has a deep and beautifully clear voice and has extremely great control of it as well, there aren't any parts of the album that I disliked, I'm not the biggest fan of "someone new" but I still think its a great album that shows Hoziers potential and raw singing ability as well. 85/100 for me, And I'm really looking forward to his next drop."  [+]  Reply

I suppose you could figure out I consider this album to be saving the best until last. But what do we have before then? An album as strong as The Kick Inside, that's what! Well one lacking a Wuthering Heights but never mind. Symphony in Blue is a wistful recollection of time to gone and pretty song too. Don't read too deep into those lyrics though if you want to keep it from being dark. But you know what? Behind all this light hearted nightingale and hit parade songs this is a dark album. In Search of Peter Pan and the man who couldn't grow up, Wow and it's tale of failed delusional actors and Fullhouse is only a glimpse into the nightmarish hallucinations of a schizophrenic. Do you expect these topics from Kate Bush!? Well... sort of... yes actually. You know, this album reminds me of one by another band who I like. Manic Street Preachers Gold Against The Soul to be precise. Both second albums and thought to have fallen prey to the commercial second album curse (I don't know). Both contain harrowing lyrics though and are anything but commercial. In fact, 8 out of 10 songs on this album are great."  [+]  Reply

This album is a meandering jam that incorporates all the playful skills they possess as musicians. It’s another grower which is what makes Thom/Johnny projects so much fun to indulge in. There’s so much to unpack in a seemingly unconvoluted album. This has the potential to be my favourite album as a whole of theirs, pieced together for a greater single work. Their other albums have singularly better songs, no doubt, but there’s something more cohesively interesting here, like pulling together a loosely sewn seam so that the edges come together without a gap in between."  [+]  Reply
