I loved Portland, Oregon, based roots-rock outfit Fruition the first time I saw them play live, at the Albino Skunk Music Festival in South Carolina, back in 2013 or 2014. Even so, I think I underestimated them. Labor of Love is just a fantastic album: well written, impeccably produced, and energetically performed, yet with enough room to breathe that it captures the feel of their potent live performances. A few summers ago they played at the Pine Creek Lodge in Paradise Valley, Montana, a rustic outdoor venue with a small stage among mountains and pine trees in a fairly remote area north of Yellowstone. The title track from this album was a highlight, as I could feel the potency and raw energy in my chest, the perfect combination of Jay Cobb Anderson's loud electric guitar and Mimi Naja's soulful mandolin strumming. Many listens later, this album still gives me that feeling, which is indicative of its staying power. An unknown classic.

A lot of hard work happens in the background to keep BEA running, and it's especially difficult to do this when we can't pay our hosting fees :(
