Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.7/100, a mean average of 69.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 10.7.

I have mixed feelings about this album. Musically, it is very interesting, especially the first half of the album. The music is very original and unique, with nice melodies. The production and arrangements really stand out and the drums really sound great. Even the cover art is superb. So far, everything points to an amazing album. Unfortunately, there are a few irritants that prevent this album from being as great as it should.
For starters, the second half of the album is a lot less good than the first, with a few ultra-pop songs that drag the album a little. But the worst part of this album is definitely the lyrics. They are so simple and childish, it rapidly becomes annoying to me. It really feels like we listen to the thoughts of a white christian from America that thinks the world revolves around him because, well you know, God.
Music has always been more important to me than lyrics, so I still enjoy this album, but boy, I really hope that these guys keep on the great music but mature lyrically in the future, so they can stop simply reciting what they learned at Sunday school.
I’ve spent the day with this album on repeat. While there is an immediacy to the tracks, what really sticks with you upon repeated listens is how fantastic the production is. In addition to having great songs, the whole things just sounds amazing. I’m expecting big things for this group in the future. Recommended if like Twenty One Pilots or Tame Impala.
